Taking #OACAction - Get ENGAGED to Make a Difference!
1:00 pm – 4:30 pm
“Taking #OACAction – Get ENGAGED to Make a Difference!” is an interactive, hands-on session to help guide you on getting involved in the cause through the OAC. This session is designed for anyone who wants to learn more about the OAC, has a desire to raise their voice and wants to become further engaged in the OAC’s community. If you have found yourself asking, “How Can I Get Involved?” then this session is for YOU!
The OAC was founded upon the mission to elevate and empower individuals affected by obesity through education, advocacy and support. Each of the three pillars of the OAC’s mission is integral to the organization, and YOU are the key to carrying out these important elements of the OAC! We all have a story, and it’s in sharing that story that we can make a difference together. In this session, you will explore each of the pillars of the OAC’s mission, learn what the OAC does each and every day to help those affected, and how you can join in our efforts to make a difference! This session will teach you how to effectively share yourself with others and give you the tools needed to immediately begin making a difference in the cause.
This session is available to all registered OAC Convention attendees and pre-registration is required. Space is limited to the first 75 attendees who sign-up in advance. To sign-up for this session, please complete the Special Event Add-on Section on the Convention Registration form to secure your spot.
OAC's National, State, and Local Advocacy Training Session
1:00 pm – 4:30 pm
Anybody can be an advocate – but have you ever wondered what it takes to influence the legislative process? How can you use your personal story with obesity to make a difference?
No matter who you are or where you come from, you can use your story, skills and experiences to advocate for obesity change on the local, state and national levels. Each year at the Convention, we host an Advocacy Training Session to get individuals more acquainted with the legislative advocacy process and show them how they can get involved in changing policy!
This year, we are pleased to integrate components into the session that not only equip attendees with the tools to represent the OAC on Capitol Hill, but also in your very own communities. If you’ve ever had an interest in learning more about the legislative process or want to explore ways to make a difference, this session is for you! It also serves as a great refresher course for those who have attended this session in the past and want to stay up-to-date on new strategies and issues.
During this training session, you will learn from the OAC's Policy Consultant and other OAC leaders about how to be an effective advocate for change. And before it's over, you will have the opportunity to put your newly-learned advocacy skills to use during mock legislative visits and experience advocating for obesity awareness, access to obesity treatments and much more!
This session is available to all registered OAC Convention attendees and pre-registration is required. Space is limited to the first 50 attendees who sign-up in advance. To sign-up for this session, please complete the Special Event Add-on Section on the Convention Registration form to secure your spot.
