The Center for Patient Advocacy Leaders (CPALs) was established in 2019, to expand a long-standing program, the Patient Advocacy Leaders Summit (PALS) that was created in 2002 to engage, educate and empower diverse patient advocates to collaborate on policy and advocacy solutions. Our advocate-centered model, “By Advocates, For Advocates,” focuses on the needs of patients, caregivers, health advocates, their organizations, and the diverse communities they serve. CPALs conducts a suite of programs that reflects the Collective Impact Model. Some of the current work of CPALs focuses on obesity, lung health, older adults, movement disorders, rare diseases, and Veterans’ health.

CPALs is committed to increasing awareness that obesity is a chronic disease, that it occurs as a condition alongside many other chronic illnesses and that communities of color face disproportionate health impacts associated with these illnesses.

To further this work, we have created Patient Advocacy Leaders United for Obesity, to work with patients, advocates and caregivers impacted by obesity, to help prioritize advocacy outreach and policy ideas and to foster collaboration, mobilization and partnerships. As a leader committed to work in this arena, we need your help to make this work relevant and meaningful. Below is a link to a brief survey. Your insights and perspectives would be most appreciated!
